4th Battalion Suffolk Regiment
Born 8th January 1910 in Bramford. Son of Frederick and Gertrude Moss of Gipping Cottages Sproughton Road, Bramford [now Fitzgerald Road].
He married Doris Sadd (see George Sadd) in 1931 and in 1939 the family was living at 5 Sproughton Road, Ipswich.
He died in Changi Camp on 26th June 1943 and is buried in the Chungkai War Cemetery, Thailand and is also commemorated on the Ipswich War Memorial.
Olaf served in the Battalion Headquarters Company and was captured at Singapore along with John William Keeble.
The 4th and 5th Battalions of Territorials were sent to the far East, but their active role in the war lasted a mere 10 days. When war came they were called up. After initial training they went out in 1942 and were diverted from India to Singapore to defend the naval base against the Japanese.
These men ended up as Prisoners of War working on the infamous Thailand-Burma railway.
